Summer is here, and lockdowns are over – meaning that it is time for our legs to get out and about with no place to hide. Summer in Australia is too hot for long pants and leggings on a day out, and for those who like to keep their legs bare and groomed, do you shave, wax or get laser?
With WoMAN vs Nature, we compare the differences between waxing and laser appointments. Both with pro’s and con’s, with summer and sun in the back of our minds, we look into the differences between laser, shaving and waxing to see which solution gives us the most benefit during summer.
What is Laser?
When you hear people talk about ‘laser’ in the beauty industry, the term they are referring to is Laser Hair Removal. Laser hair removal works by zapping the hair follicles at the root of your area to slowly reduce the number of hairs from regrowing over time.
Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?
Laser technicians work with machines that scale to different heat settings to ensure that your procedure is painless. You will be asked if you are comfortable with the laser settings once you get settled in, which will then be worked around your area of concern. The feelings described when getting a laser appointment revolves around words like a light zap, quick pinch.
What are the pros and cons of getting Laser hair removal?
Lasering lasts longer than waxing – where the hair follicles on your body deteriorate, the more sessions you book in. You need to book around 8-12 treatments to get the full result, with ongoing touch up sessions each couple of months. With upkeep still being a requirement with laser appointments, the difference between laser and waxing over time will factor in the big elephant in the room of its cost.
The requirements of getting laser includes the following:
-
The area you are treating cannot be exposed to the sun within 4 weeks prior to your appointment. Nor can you expose the treated area post-appointment for 1 week.
-
Fake tanning products cannot be used 3-4 weeks prior to treatment; the area should be thoroughly exfoliated to remove all residues.
-
Must be freshly shaved for the appointment.
Enjoy the summer with no limitations
The difference, comparison between Waxing & Laser Looks at the primary cons of lasering where you cannot be exposed to the sun. Laser clinics check the temperature of your body and skin to ensure that you have not been exposed to the sun. This means no sun baking, tanning, beach days, pool swims – the list goes on! Even with sunscreen, the temperature of your body naturally rises once exposed to the sun.
Why not both?
Much like the rest of us, your Purely Polished community get both waxing and laser appointments. Our method of approach is to book in laser appointments in Autumn and Winter to then maintain with waxing during the summertime. With each laser treatment, the time in between appointments become stretched out to months. As an example:
-
You will come back after 2 weeks after your first appointment.
-
3 weeks after your second appointment
-
1 month after your third
-
1 month after your fourth
-
2 months after your fifth
-
3 months, and it goes on.
Plan your treatments to start in Autumn, so for when Summer is around the corner – a simple waxing appointment will suffice!
