Lash extensions dramatically enhance the look of length, curliness, fullness and thickness of natural lashes. We’ve broken down why we here at Purely Polished love lash extensions:

What’s the difference between Classic and Volume Lash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions generally come in two popular treatments: classic and volume. To volume lash or not to volume lash, that is the question of late.

  • A classic lash extension is considered the “traditional” technique. One extension is applied (with long lasting lash glue) to each individual natural eyelash.

  • Volume lash extensions on the other hand is the technique in which anywhere from 2-6 extensions are stuck together in a “fan” and are applied to each individual lash. This fan effect creates a dramatic look and multiplies the fullness of your lashes 3 fold.

How are eyelash extensions applied?

  1. First and foremost, a qualified and trained lash technician will clean your eye area

  2. The lash technician then apply patches to the under-eye area to separate and hold down your bottom lashes

  3. A primer is then applied to the natural lash to get rid of any oil and to help the lash extension bond properly to the natural lash

  4. The technician picks up an extension using a pair of tweezers. On the other hand, the technician uses another pair of tweezers to isolate one of your natural lashes which will have the lash extension adhered to it.

  5. The technician dips the extension in glue, and carefully attaches it to the base of the isolated natural eyelash. The technician will continue this process starting from the outer corner of the eye to the inner corner of the eye. Eyes stay closed throughout the whole process so you can relax (and maybe have a nap!).

How long do lash extensions last?

Eyelash Extensions generally last 6 weeks. Eyelash extensions can be an investment and an ongoing treatment. It is recommended that you get infills every 2 – 3 weeks when about 30% of your artificial lashes have fallen out. Infills are the best way to ensure your lashes continue to look full and it’s also better for your wallet – wait any longer and you’ll need to repeat a full application.

What are lash extensions made from?

The longest lasting lashes are synthetic mink (faux mink) made from polyester. Lash extensions can be made from several materials including mink and horse hair but texture, longevity and price differ greatly between materials.

How long does it take for lash extensions to be applied?

A full set might take 2-2.5 hours to apply and a refill application ranges from an hour to 90 minutes.

What else do you need to know about eyelash extensions?

  • Eyelash extensions are not painful and your natural lashes will not be damaged

  • Lash glue is applied only to lashes there should be no skin contact.

  • Every morning you should brush your lashes using a spoolie & you should try to sleep on your back at night

  • The best artificial lashes are made from FAUX MINK

  • NEVER remove extensions yourself

  • Cleanliness is key, make sure you’re washing your face and eyes (gently) every day

If you’re still not sold on eyelash extensions but are still looking for an alternative to mascara a lash lift is a great alternative or start to lash enhancements before you jump into extensions.
